I will never forget the session with Karen-Ore Maimon. It was somewhere around September/October 0f ‘2022, when she had left me a distress call on my voicemail stating that her sessions drummer completely flaked on the project! This left Karen, her band mates, and her manager in quite a crunch. With only 10 hours before the recording session, she sent me what I needed to learn. It felt like Finals Week in college all over again. So, I fired up my Roland kit, plugged in her scratch track, and put together her drum patterns for the song.
In no time, I was in a studio in Burbank having a recording session with Karen-Ore Maimon. A young, aspiring Australian artist, with a lovely personality, and a strong passion for the music she creates. “I Carry” is the name of the song I was called in for. As most of you know, so much of a song rests on the person working the board. Unfortunately, Karen’s song, although catchy, didn’t have the right sound engineer for her project. Unfortunately, you don’t really know this until it’s time to put all the pieces of the project together. With that said, if you can overlook the poor mixing, you can at least enjoy the song, and appreciate the emotion she brings. The drum pattern I composed, was used for the track “I Can Tell”. Enjoy listening to my session with Karen-Ore Maimon.
